The King Of Stonhenge
Mysterious structure – Stonehenge, a complex of huge rocks, placed the rings on the Salisbury plain, in southern England, long vexed historians (see “Science and life” № 12, 1996). Radiocarbon analysis found here the remnants of campfires showed that the construction of more than 4,000 years, Stonehenge was erected on the edge of the stone and bronze ages, several centuries before the Trojan war. The construction, as so often with medieval cathedrals, lasted more than one hundred years, proceeded in several stages and was completed around 1600 BC
Over the centuries that have passed since then, the local population has changed several times, and living not only now, but also lived in England hundreds of years ago already had the vaguest idea of the origins, time of occurrence and the purpose of this structure. The first written mention of Stonehenge refers to 1136. The British chronicler, author of “history of the Britons” galfrid manatsky, knew and purpose, and history of giant buildings. According to him, initially, these huge stones are a nation of giants was taken “from the outermost reaches of Africa and set them in Iberni” (the ancient name of Ireland). Great Merlin, according to Alfredo Monatskarte, explained to the king of the Britons Aurelius that the rocks have these healing properties: “pushing the stone recesses, the giants gave themselves to the baths, which were used, when their minds were filled with afflictions. They also mingled pounded to powder the stones to the decoctions of herbs, and the wound quickly tightened”.
Britta decided to take the healing stones from inhabitants of Hibernia and sent for this purpose 15 thousand armed men. The army of the king of Hibernia that protected the stone ring, was defeated, but the huge stones are impossible to be moved either with ropes or by force of arms. Then, “Merlin laughed and had forged their own tools. Applying some necessary adaptations, he moved the stones with incredible ease; they shifted the blocks he was forced to drag the ships and they can sink”. Then the stones were delivered to Britain and established there, where there are still.
Since Geoffrey of Monmouth was put forward numerous versions of the origin of this ancient monument. The builders offered to consider the Romans, Danes, Phoenicians, druids, inhabitants of Atlantis, and in recent years, and space aliens.
Modern science knows about the origin and purpose of Stonehenge a little more drawning English writer. However, Africa and Ireland story: geologists have proven that some of this rock is a typical for this area the Sandstone, the other consisting of rocks of volcanic origin, clearly produced in the South of Wales. Some four tons of stones delivered from the quarries in Wales for 380 kilometers. Are people without cars, who knew neither iron nor the wheel, is unclear. However, carried out ten years ago an experiment showed that using a primitive sweeps, wooden rails, Vah, ropes and inclined planes a group of a hundred people could be moved and put on the priest stone block weighing 40 tons.
Astronomers have proved that this set of stones and holes in between the oldest forms of astronomi ical Observatory, in which are marked the points of sunrise and sunset and other luminaries in the key days of the year. The Observatory made it possible to predict the dates of lunar and solar eclipses. Apparently, there were performed some religious rituals. But it is still unknown who built these megaliths. Now there’s your first clue.
In may 2002, five kilometers from stone circles was found the burial of a rich man who died at the age of 35-45 years and who lived about 4300 years ago, that is when they built Stonehenge. Of wealth and high social position of the deceased is the fact that in the grave next to him, stacked gold jewelry and objects which, apparently, were at that time more than gold, – knives made of copper. These knives were brought from the continent, from Spain and France. In addition, in the burial discovered two bows, and numerous silicon arrowheads, bracelets, pottery of local origin. The body wrapped in a cloak, the cloak made of animal skins. Just find a hundred subjects, more than ten times greater than normal number of finds in graves of the period.
Archaeologists suggest that the person buried there was either a construction Manager or the author of the project, and even the main priest of the temple-Observatory under the open sky. Just at the period of his life came the most important phase of the stone Observatory. Apparently, his construction crews moved the huge stones, arranged in circles. In the British press he received the title of “king of Stonehenge”.
But the most sensational was the fact that this man came to the Islands from continental Europe. The recently completed analysis of oxygen isotopes in the tooth enamel of the deceased showed that he grew up in the Alps, probably Switzerland, and only later came to England. The ratio of isotopes in each locality, and it is reflected in the tooth enamel of the person.
Nearby was found a second tomb where is buried a young man of 20-25 years. Both of the skeleton have an inherent feature of the structure of one of the bones of the feet, which suggests the relationship of the two men. However, tooth enamel of a young man shows that he grew up here, in the South of England, but the last years of his life were spent in the middle of the country or even in the North, in Scotland. Assume that this is the son of the “king of Stonehenge”. In the grave lay two more gold jewelry.
New archaeological discovery strikes the insular pride of the British. It turns out that the creators of Stonehenge – newcomers from the mainland, from the South of Europe, those lands which are now Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany.
Of course, a new find archaeologists not explain all the mysteries of megalithic structures. In Western Europe, including in Germany, known ring constructions of this kind, but they are more primitive, have a considerable size and often do not consist of boulders and a ring of earthen ramparts and timber of palings. It is interesting that there are such structures and in the southern Urals. How I got the idea of the ring of the temple-Observatory of the British Isles and why it is here she found the most impressive incarnation? If she was passed from mouth to mouth of delighted travellers who have seen such buildings in the far lands? Or some people, having moved from southern Europe to England, built his Church by the precepts of their ancestors?
