Mountain Vottovaara

Mountain Vottovaara is one of the most mysterious places on planet Earth

In the mythology of different peoples have a legend about World Mountain. First, from the ocean of chaos has emerged a mountain. Later on it appeared the Creator — God of the Sun RA.

Then the Phoenix screamed about the beginning of Time. Time in the philosophy of ancient cycles. In the circle of the World Mountains go, the Sun and the Moon, over its center stands the North Star, and at the top is the abode of the Gods. Where is the World Mountain. Nobody knows exactly.

One knows that the mountain is in the North.

Thus the ancients had not the legendary mountain at the North pole, and far to the South. In their view, the World mountain as a magnificent crown, glittering in the sun, surrounds the Northern part of the Earth.

Karelian mountain Vottovaara is one of the most mysterious places on planet Earth.

It is situated on the West Karelian upland, it has the main peak 417 meters above sea level.

Mount Vottovaara — a complex of ancient stone structures known as seids — hanging or flying stones. The scale of the complex is amazing — hundreds of large and small rocks form a complex system of geometric shapes and mazes. The size of the complex significantly exceeds any open in Europe and Scandinavia religious buildings.

Still inquisitive researcher can find in the remote corners of the taiga of Karelia, the monuments that do not fit into the system logical views of modern man. One of these monuments is the complex on the mountain Vottovaara. Vottovaara mountain in Karelia superstitious people consider the place the focus of evil forces and the bridge to another world: there are ugly trees, almost no fauna, lakes dead. One name it in the people is worth something: Death mountain.

Mountain Vottovaara is the highest peak of Western-Karelian elevation — 417,3 m above sea level, and the nearest village was situated about twenty miles from it, not less. About 9 thousand years ago in the place where they lie, by an earthquake, which formed a gigantic failure. So in the centre of the mountain there was a natural amphitheater, dotted with small lakes and rocks. Karelian scientists believe that Vottovaara — a unique geological monument. It turns out that not only geological. In recent years, Death mountain has become a place of pilgrimage for followers of different mystical trends, claiming that this is the focus of evil forces and the bridge to the other world. The slope of the mountain is a stone terraces overgrown with moss. Pine and spruce interspersed with old logging tracks and forest fires. The top is a rocky plateau, in some places covered with trees of whimsical shape and height. For example, old, hundred – and two hundred year old pines here are not higher than two meters. And when you see the local birch trees, it seems as if some unknown force especially their twists.

On top of Vottovaara an area of approximately six square miles is about 1,600 stones arranged in some mysterious order. Scientists suggest that this ancient religious complex. The stones of Vottovaara can be called seids. Seid is the best boulder or piece of rock, the artificial nature of the separation of which from the environment is obvious, that is, has obvious signs of human impact. The most dense concentration of stones-seids — on the highest point of the ridge and along the slopes of the amphitheatre. The stones are mostly groups of two to six pieces. Some large stones, which weigh about three tons, put on “legs”, that is, stacked on a few smaller stones. Most of the stones lies on the shores of ancient lakes and cliffs. Seids is very fit harmoniously into the mountain terrain — fabulous, rampant chaos traces of ancient earthquakes.

Who, when and why put these stones here? Any items that would date the monument, hitherto not found. Geologists have drilled the bottom of the lake in the center of the amphitheater and took soil samples. The analysis showed the presence of a thick layer of phosphorus formed for a limited period of time. One of the versions of the “phosphate anomaly” — numerous acts of sacrifice beside seita, which have produced deposits of animal bones. Perhaps the name itself — Death-Gore — is associated with many bloody sacrifices. Typically, these objects belong to the Sami tradition. But, as suggested by the Karelian archaeologist mark Shakhnovich, complex-Death-grief, apparently, is much older and is part of the complex megalithic structures, erected along the European Atlantic coast from Spain to Norway in the bronze age. All other guesses so far belong exclusively to the field of hypothetical assumptions. For example, there is a version that the age of the complex is about 2000 years old, and the idea of its construction belongs to the Northern tribes of the Hyperboreans — the inhabitants of ancient Northern country of Hyperborea.

Many mysteries gave scientists one of the most amazing local finds — “stairway to heaven”. The so-called unknown by whom and when carved into the rock thirteen steps, ending with a deep cliff. Archaeologists say with full responsibility: the local tribes in ancient times did not exist “idea stairs”, as the other tribes did not exist “idea wheel”. The question of artificial or natural origin of the degrees has not yet found its final solution. Trying to understand the idea of the ancient architects, scientists made a plan of the complex on the ground. However, the paper emerged a clear composition of figures, such as circular, spiral or square. And different age of rocks indicates that the complex might have formed quite a long time. Rather, Vottovaara we are dealing with grandiose, unparalleled in the world of the cult complex, where for centuries went the sacrificial rites.
